"Here's looking at you Kidd"

"Here's looking at you Kidd!" Emma, I am sure you have never heard that one. It seemed fitting after the grape stomping to enjoy the fruits of your labor. This book is looking awesome by the way. Very full. There are only a couple pages left so someone will have to add some pages.

You all have a blessed and safe New Year!

Happy New Year!!

I have Melissa's book. I will make an entry and put it in the show. 3MW as a cheerleader seemed very appropriate. Maybe me as a big headed raccoon team mascot?

Tis the Season...

Hello all.
As we move into what is, for many of us, the most hectic wonderful time of the year I wanted to ask each of you to consider the awesome gift you have to give. Making an entry in someone's book will surely make their season bright and it doesn't cost a lot. Please consider carving out a few minutes this season to get a book into the hands of another artist. A gentle reminder, as the moderator of this group, that there is no shame to admitting that life has gotten in the way of art-making. You can send me an email and I will help you sort out where to mail the book so it can be on its way and off your plate of things "to do." How about a little roll call in the comments section. Say hi if you've still got a pulse. We'd love the chance to hear from each of you.

Thanks everyone for the amazing contributions we've seen so far.

Carrier pigeons - Robin's moly

Moly_X: Robin's moly

My entry in Robin's moly, incorporating the paint splotches left by Jan :)

I also have RebelPapa's moleskine here - I had to go away for a while before I could send it and mislaid the name and address of the next person. I apologise. Please let me know who would like these books next and I will send them this week.

October Update

Happy October. Here's the most recent. Let's try to keep all the books moving please. If you're stuck or swamped, please email me and I will try to find a way to reroute the books. Thanks!

Lisa's book

I finished up Lisa's book today. I've been experimenting with water soluble graphite lately and this book seemed to fit in well with that. Robin's entry before mine was a large facial spread in pencil. I'm pretty happy overall with my painting of Lisa, not so much of myself. I would have preferred to leave myself out completely! Maybe I just need more self portrait practice. It was difficult to even find a picture of myself. But rules are rules :D

I hope you like it Lisa. Oh also, this is just a snap taken with my iPhone. I'll scan a hi-res image tomorrow and post it to flickr.

Edit: I added the scanned image.

M&M Rock!

It's been a while since I wanted to put my hands on Marty's book and didn't have time... But here it comes - M&M Rock duet!
Marty, please, remind me - what song are we performing right now?

Stomping the grapes

Emma and I have been busy turning grapes into wine, I Love Lucy style.

September 18th Update

So exciting to see these book flying all over again. Let's keep the momentum going. As always, let me know if anything on the chart needs fixing. Jan I think I assumed you were sending Robin's on to Kathleen. Let me know if I'm wrong.

Confusion

I'm a little confused... I'm finishing up two Molies and I suddenly realised I have no idea who to send them to. One of the books came from Melissa, the other from Marty— should I send the Melissa one to Marty and the Marty one to Melissa?

Anna & Robin

Here is a better pic of Anna's moly now that the paint is dry and also with my self-portrait part added. This will be heading out to Chris this week. Who's next?

Shaken Up!

All this Moly_x shaking up has shaken me up and I've finally done my entry in Robin's book.  Sorry for the delay!  I know Marty loves a good up-side-down-under joke, so I hope Robin appreciates them too.  That's a bit of Emma's page on the left.  She is a hard act to follow!

Melissa and I + our "babies"

First of all - sorry for the delay, but here it comes! I passed through a lot of Melissa's photos and found her photographed together with her daughter many times. The postures looked so familiar to me, and I found one picture of myself together with my "baby" that looked very similar.
Don't moms and their children look similar over the world?
Melissa, I hope you liked our group portrait.

Call for Entries

I am thrilled that moly_x will be exhibiting at Minnesota Center of Book Arts (MCBA), between mid-January through March 2011. It's coming up! This is a great venue, and this exhibit could mean some wonderful opportunities for other exhibitions around the country, and possible grants. This is a very receptive community.

I would like a few of the great portrait books from this group. These books do not have to be completed. If you have a book right now would you consider sending it to me next. It will be out of circulation through March, but it will get some wonderful attention. I will guarantee it's safe return, or delivery to the next artist on the list.

MCBA does a great job of documenting their shows, so you will have a nice record. Whoever is in the book may add another credit to her/his resumé. We will continue to look for other similar venues for moly_x exhibitions. There are many book art institutions like this around the country, and there are many university book arts, and illustration programs.

I have dreamed of this exhibit since we started this little project. I would like to get 2 or 3 portrait books from this group.

Thanks for you help.

Yours,

Marty

Anna's Moly Portrait

At long last... I have finally done my entry for Anna's book. I apologize for the amount of time it took me to get this turned around. As with most things, it only took one evening to do it, its just a matter of moving it to the front of the line.

This is done in oils so I need to give it another couple weeks to dry. I did spend a little time awhile back testing this because I didn't want to do oils in her book and find out that it doesn't work. The paper actually took the oil pretty well. I was pleasantly surprised. I have been doing a lot of my other work in oils lately so i wanted to give it a shot and I'm glad I did. So, one more down. I will pass this off to Chris in a couple weeks.

RebelPapa - and mysterious stranger

Portraits-Rebelpapa1

Here is my entry in Chris' moly.
I was doing the self-portrait side without sketching it in pencil first while my sister tried to have a conversation with me, so it is... somewhat less successful!

Emma's Book: Kidding Aside

This should lay to rest the tiresome southern hemisphere jokes. This is the last, Emma, I promise.

If you look a little dirty faced, Emma, I apologize for that as well. You all know how tough it can be to work with water media in these books. I have embraced it, though, and have grown to embrace the accidents that always occur. I hope you will accept that excuse, and enjoy the picture.

Off to Samantha.

April 2010

This should reflect most recent status from your comments and/or chat box...would be great to see some smiling (or not smiling) faces posted soon. Maybe even a monster face, a polar bear, or one of Chris's pigeons. Ut-oh, that's me. I 'd better get a move on.

What about some tea?..or....coffee?

Hello dear group!
Here I put my entry into Zaza's book (in progress).
Since Samantha enjoys tea and I've recently become a coffee addict-I decided to depict her in tea leaves and myself- in coffee beans.
I'm off to continue... (=

New Chart

I took out the numbers since books are all out of sequence anyway.
Please help me fill in the gaps. Does anyone else have a book, even if not worked in?

10,000 Robins come marching over the hill...

I'll send this one off this week to Marina (I am sure she has enough). Should I send it to someone else who hasn't had this moleskine?

I have Molys... LOTs and Lots and lots of molys

The package from Remi arrived today!!!!
I am now in possession of Anna's, Christopher's, Olya's, and Yoda's molys. Now the big question...
Who wants them?? The next person who was originally supposed to receive them? Or just send the out to whom ever is ready to draw in a book?

GOOD NEWS!!!!!

I just received an email from Remi. He sent a package to me 2 weeks ago that contain missing molys!! I will be hounding my mailman until the package arrives. As soon as it does, I'll mail out the missing molys to the next in line. Yippee!! Happy New Year to Moly_x_ portait1!!

Melissa Monsterised

I look a little frumpy, but hey, as long as Melissa looks ok, that's all I care about. Very cheeky.
I have an idea for Robin, he won't be completely monsterised.

I need to work fast...

So I have noticed with the Portraits I need to work like I did when I used to do life drawing, fast and not thinking too much, and generally, I have a better attitude to it, and I am much happier with the result.

So!
Here is the first of the three I have. Marty as a raccoon style monster. I am very happy with his expression.
